Health & Safety is about preventing accidents, injuries and harm to health caused by work. In this course the employees will examine the health risks and safety hazards of the working environment, what to do in the event of a fire, safe manual handling, COSHH and basic first aid procedures.
Background
In this section you will explore who is responsible for health & safety, the distinctions between risks and hazards, and how to can help to keep you and your colleagues safe at work.
In the Office
This section looks at the health risks and hazards usually associated with working in an office, and describes some of the steps you should take to keep yourself in good health; you will also be introduced to hazard warning signs that you might come into contact with.
Fire
If you experience a fire, you need to know what to do. In this section will find out about evacuation procedures, what to do if you’re the first person to discover a fire and you’ll explore the common types of fire extinguishers, the fires that they are appropriate and inappropriate for.
Lifting and Carrying Safely
It is in your own interest to know the essentials of safe manual handling and in this section you’ll learn how to lift and move awkward loads yourself safely, the kinds of injuries you can sustain from handling things awkwardly, and how to avoid those injuries, plus how to mechanical aids safely.
COSHH
Every workplace contains substances that could be hazardous to you health. In this section you will explore who has responsibility for maintaining a safe working environment – including COSHH regulations (Controlling Substances Hazardous to Health) – and what safety precautions need to be taken.
First Aid and Accidents
There are some basic procedures for dealing with medical emergencies that everyone should know. This section looks at what you can do to help someone who is suffering from sudden illness or injury until qualified medical assistance arrives to take over from you.
